Shiva Damaru Drum
This damru is a small two-headed pellet drum, made from wood with leather drum heads. Shiva Nataraja holds a Damaru in the dance of the Cosmic Creation as the cosmos was being manifest. The drum itself is thought to perfectly balance Lingam and Yoni, male and female. One legend has it that the sounds of the Sanskrit language arose from Shiva's drumbeats, played on the damaru, also spelled "damru". Often carried by holy Sadhus in India, the damaru is also thought to manifest the rhythm of the heart beat.
This damaru is completely hand-carved and handcrafted by a small family co-op in Nepal. The drum heads measure 4" in diameter.
