Meet MacroSun International
Welcome to MacroSun International. I’m Gil Williams, owner and founder, of MacroSun, an international marketplace for South Asian arts and crafts. I started MacroSun International after volunteer work in Tibet, Nepal, and India in 1990 – and the store grew out of a great respect and love for the cultures and people of South Asia. My vision is to bring the wisdom and spirituality of the Eastern world to a larger audience, in the form of sacred arts and unique, authentic pieces for the body and home.
I travel to India, Tibet, Pakistan, Bali, Afghanistan and all South Asian countries to hand pick items for our store. MacroSun directly supports Tibetan refugees, Afghan refugees, the Thai hilltribes, and a group home for former street children in Kathmandu, Nepal. You can see more about my travels here.
Beautiful bronze and wood statues of Ganesha; mahogany carvings of Buddha, Kwan Yin, and dragons; stone Hanuman garden statues from Bali; Tibetan singing bowls and monastery paintings are just a few of the sacred arts that I am privileged to show in our gallery and offer here online.
You will find a wide spectrum of unique hand-crafted sterling earrings, rings, anklets and tribal jewelry from Rajasthan (North India), Kathmandu, and Chiangmai. Warm yak wool mittens and hand-knitted sweaters from the Himalayas, stylish winter hats from Northern Afghanistan, hand-block print tapestries, decorative masks and colorful mobiles, holiday bells, Balinese angels, bindis and bamboo wind chimes, Tibetan prayer flags and wheels and stones, banana leaf stationary and gift wrap. MacroSun offers earth friendly products, such as handmade stationery made of the renewable bark of the Daphne bush from Nepal.
The spirituality of MacroSun extends to our commitment to our artisan-partners in South Asia, and to the way we do business. I have cultivated a large network of friends and families I know on a first-name basis. MacroSun is active in international fair trade and we are active members of the Fair Trade Federation. Since we buy direct, we can both pay a fair price to our artist-friends overseas and offer very reasonable prices on items to our online and brick-and-mortar customers.
The vision of MacroSun has always been to promote peace, knowledge and respect both for our cultural differences for the common humanity we share, to be a bridge between cultures and provide a way for the arts and culture of South Asia to continue to flourish.
I hope you enjoy shopping for South Asia treasures in our online marketplace (link to store). If you are in St. Louis stop by our brick-and-mortar store (link to directions) for the full MacroSun experience . Feel free to contact me by email (general macrosun email here) or call our toll free number (1-888-962-6278)
Namaste
Gil Williams
