Handmade Lokta Paper Stationery
Handmade Lokta Paper Stationery
The handmade paper used in making this stationery is both fair trade and environmentally sound. Made from the bark of the regenerating Lokta, the bark grows back and the plant is not destroyed. The process involves three separate co-ops in Nepal, all knowledgeable in the ancient art of traditional Nepalese paper-making. While standardized, the paper has character and personality, with flecks of bark and fiber in each cream-colored sheet. Bodhi leaves feature prominently on the greeting cards. According to tradition, the Buddha attained enlightenment while sitting under a banyan tree. The tree was renamed a “bodhi tree” (“bodhi” meaning “awake”) in honor of this event. The leaves of that tree are called bodhi leaves, and as such the leaves themselves, or depictions, are frequently used as symbolic decoration.
